With the cost of living rising steadily in Hong Kong, many of my fellow traveller friends have been complaining that it is getting expensive to travel to Hong Kong now. Reason being; a large bulk of their money is splurged on adequate accommodation. As the urban sprawl of Hong Kong island steeps with limited land, affordable lodging is becoming less even for the locals. Hence it is kind of challenging to find an adequate accommodation that is generally clean and affordable.

From my experience, I do agree with them. Having travelled to Hong Kong several times, I do find that hotels in Hong Kong is much more expensive compared to Singapore.

But guess what? In my most recent trip to Hong Kong last week, I came across this hidden gem that I felt I should share.

That is ‘MINI HOTEL’. 

The Mini Hotel franchise has two branches, one located in Hong Kong Central and the other in Causeway Bay. For this recent trip, I’ve chosen the latter as my objective for this trip is to ‘drop dead shopping and stuff dead eating’… Lol.

Now, let’s see what this mini gem has install for us.

Mini Hotel Causeway Bay is located right in the heart of the shopping district of Causeway Bay; a haven where the shopping sprees of ladies and palates of the food lovers are satisfied.

Causeway Bay MTR is also situated nearby and is just approximately 5 to 8 minutes walk from Mini Hotel Causeway Bay.

Major shopping centres like Time Square, Lee Gardens and Hysan Place are literally just a few steps away. 

Designed in a petite building, especially where space is a premium in Hong Kong, the hotel splendours simple yet chic European decor with an air of modernism theming with artistic beauty in every nook-and-cranny of the definition of contemporary. This hotel has more than beholds the eye; perfect to fill every traveller with ideas and artsy .

My First Impression upon stepping in: Wow! It was fabulously cool and clean. 

The hotel entrance, decorated neatly with the pictures of artistes arranged in an old-new sensual twist, was nice and clean. It was constantly refreshened with sweet-relaxing scents. The playing of modern music also helped in creating an atmosphere of relaxation.

The vintage decorated lobby in the basement was artsy and elegant. You will be greeted by a large portrait of Mona Lisa fashioned in old-new artsy finishings. Pictures of sceneries and artistes can be found all over the walls with old-vintage furniture retro-ed in a new fitting.

Here hotel guests can find magazines and newspaper for a reading fix and snuggle in to the unique furniture – including the bird nest at the corner. iMac PCs are also available for hotel guests who wish to go online surfing.

The service was immaculate and efficient. Staffs were polite and was able to converse in English. They also have handy maps for tourists who need directions around the island including information about buses to get to-and-fro the airport.

It was also our pleasure and surprise to meet up with the gorgeous lady, Ms Kate So, Senior Marketing Executive of Mini Hotel.

The whole check-in process was swift and we had a complimentary upgrade from ‘Mini Double Room’ to the ‘Smart Queen Room’.

Our room card was handled to us with the necessary details like wifi password and check-out time clearly written. Our Smart Queen Room was located on the 13th level.

As the name of the hotel says it all, the room was mini but was adequate for a couple. The room was impressively clean, well decorated and well lit. It was ergonomically equipped with most basic facilities any traveller would need including a hair dryer, electric kettle and complimentary bottled waters. The room had a safe under the bed and plenty of power points along the walls. 

The toilet was small but sexy. Clear glass all round which fogged up in a nice hot shower with fully updated tiles and bathroom facilities. Good ventilation within the bathroom helped in keeping humidity away from the bedroom. The hotel provided complimentary toothbrush sets and a all purpose body and hair shampoo.  

This is easily and most definitely everybody’s choice hotel. From the shoestring Hong Kong backpacker tourists to the avid shopaholics, this hotel is well situated and easily affordable for everyone. Especially with its close proximity to major shopping malls and MTR stations including the Happy Valley Jockey Club, there’s so much exciting things to do out and around.
